Additional box - More power for the Audi A3 from Boiserie

The additional box is an electronic device that connects to your vehicle's various engine sensors when the engine cannot yet be reprogrammed in our centres. It optimises engine performance by increasing power and torque. In the case of this Audi A3, we installed a box capable of delivering an estimated gain of 30 bhp and 60 Nm of torque. One of the advantages of the additional box is its ease of installation. All you have to do is connect the wiring harness to various sensors such as the rail pressure, turbo or AAC (camshafts) and fix the box using the brackets provided.

What's more, you can set the desired power gain using predefined positions.

Very easy to install, thanks to the detailed instructions supplied by the manufacturer (who unfortunately was not the right one in this case), the box can be fitted in just a few minutes. There are, however, a few good practices to follow to ensure that the wiring is correctly routed and that there are no problems with use.

In addition to the additional box, we also fitted a BMC 756/20 air filter(available to buy on our e-commerce site) to this Audi A3. This filter increases the flow of air entering the engine, which improves the vehicle's overall performance. What's more, the BMC air filter is reusable and can be cleaned at every service interval. A high-performance investment that pays off in the long term.

After installing the additional box and the BMC air filter, we carried out a power measurement on the test bench. The results were very satisfactory, with an increase in power of 30bhp and torque of 60Nm compared to the original values. The result is total power of 180 bhp and torque of 410 Nm. These gains in power and torque significantly improve the performance of the Audi A3, while keeping fuel consumption under control.

Ultimately, the question arises as to which modification is preferable: an additional box or stage 1 ?

In this case, as things stand, the question doesn't arise because the ECU cannot yet be modified. Once it is, the advantage of switching to reprogramming will be natural for drivers who want more power, because chiptuning always delivers better performance than an additional box. In terms of reliability, there's no difference between the two.

A recurring question when fitting modifications to a vehicle is how to preserve the manufacturer's warranty. In the case of the additional box, there is no risk to your vehicle's warranty. This is because the modification is entirely reversible. By removing the additional box and removing the wiring harness, you can return your vehicle to its original configuration. So, if you need to, you can return to your dealer without risking losing your warranty.

After a few accelerations, Lucien noticed the difference straight away. He particularly appreciates the increase in power and torque, which translates into a more responsive driving style and sharper acceleration. What's more, he points out that these changes have no impact on his vehicle's fuel consumption.
