Today we meet up with our friend Mickaël Jacques, manager of Even Parc automobiles in Tours, more precisely in Chambray-lès-Tours. The previous article was a long way from the subject we're about to tackle, since we were talking about oil changes and automatic gearboxes with the purchase of a MotulEvo machine at the Tours center. Today, the subject is very different, as we're going to pick up a Tesla Model 3 performance from Even Parc Automobiles to see what can be improved on this model, which has become emblematic in the electric vehicle landscape.

Tesla Model 3 Performance, an everyday asset?

After chatting a little with Mickael, who is basically a fan of large combustion engines, he went on to tell us that the Tesla Model 3 Performance has a lot of going for it. The fact that it can be recharged at home in the evening, so you don't have to go to the petrol station, the quietness of the journey, which can be a strength for some people, and all the same 482bhp for this electric vehicle. According to Mickaël, this daily driver is ideal for 'local' travel.

So off we go, back to our engine reprogramming center in Tours to put it through its paces and see what it's really got. We're going to make the numbers talk!

Once we'd settled in, we immediately noticed how roomy the cabin was, a big reason why this Model 3 is such a hit with families.

Now that it's strapped to the dyno like a conventional car with the towing hooks but also on the running gear, it's time to set up the dyno a little differently from a conventional car. What changes is the fact that the measurement is not taken as a function of engine speed, but as a function of speed. Once the settings have been made, it's time to put the car on the dyno. The result is a VMAX limited to 262 km/h in absolute engine silence, which is a little disconcerting for Médo, who is used to feeling vibrations, but in the end it's the absence of noise that creates this effect. The dyno sheet is printed and in its pocket, and now it's time to go and report back to Mickaël.

What is a car's Cx?

The Cx (and we're not talking about the Citroën, of course), or coefficient of drag, is an indicator that measures the aerodynamics of an electric car, i.e. its ability to split the air efficiently. A low Cx, generally between 0.25 and 0.40 for production cars, means that the vehicle encounters less air resistance, which is crucial for maximising range.

In fact, a good Cx reduces energy consumption and improves performance at high speeds, making driving more efficient with an optimised range. In short, Cx plays a key role in optimising the use of the energy stored in the battery.

Review: Back to Even Parc Automobile

According to Mickaël, this Tesla Model 3 performance car puts out a lot of horsepower, and indeed, if we look closely at the figures from the two dyno runs, this car is in good shape. On our first run, the car produced 522bhp and 587Nm of torque, slightly below the 620-630bhp claimed.

On the second run, it delivered 480bhp and 560Nm, with a top speed of 263kph. What really surprised Médéric was that even though the torque dropped, the power remained stable.

Even after several passes, the power continues to be maintained, with a very flat curve over time. Of course, there's a slight loss, which is normal, but nothing dramatic compared with other vehicles where the power drops sharply after a peak.

According to Mickaël, this Tesla Model 3 Performance delivers exactly the power it claims and performance, if we look at the figures from the two runs on the dyno, this car is in good shape.
