Stage 3 - Polo WRC Final result

Hello and welcome to another article in our series of videos and articles on our Stage 3 engine preparation. We share with you the concrete results of Stage 3 on the Polo 6R WRC after long weeks of preparation and extensive modifications. The Shiftech team put the Polo through its paces on the power bench and on the road to assess the real impact of the modifications.

Review of Stage 3 Modifications: Technical Optimisation and Fine Tuning

Before detailing the results, it is essential to recall the customer's expectations and the major modifications made during this stage 3 preparation. He wanted to obtain between 420 and 450 bhp while running on petrol. Here's what was changed on the Polo WRC:

  • Complete forged engine: pistons, connecting rods, valve springs, valves, modified roller cam, everything to ensure maximum reliability.
  • Optimised supercharging with a TTE 480 turbo.
  • Full exhaust system: This system not only gives the Polo a distinctive sound, but also optimises the flow of air for enhanced performance.
  • Tuned choke: This parameter, adjusted to suit the engine and turbo, contributes to an explosive sound while ensuring the car's stability.
  • Adjusted chassis: An adjustment to the chassis to manage the added power and ensure vehicle safety.

These modifications give the Polo 6R WRC a higher level of performance, while maintaining a balance between performance and reliability for regular use.

Bench test: Power and torque results

The power bench test revealed figures in line with expectations. With 430bhp and 630Nm of torque, the Polo 6R WRC is propelled far beyond its original performance. With a constant power plateau right up to the ignition switch, it delivers acceleration and acceleration that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

A breaker that's more than there!

As well as a machine that runs hard, it has a sound that wakes you up. As soon as the car hits the ignition switch, it's a shooting gallery for the ears. It's a good thing that the owner won't be confronted with the ignition switch for road use.

Road test: Driving sensations and road holding

The road test confirmed the Polo's increased performance, with the turbo charging from 2,200 rpm, offering instant power under acceleration. In terms of roadholding, however, owners will need to take a few precautions, as the car is likely to behave a little naughty on wet roads!

Fun fact about the project!

Throughout the project, it was impossible to find the anti-theft nut. William had to work without ever removing the rims to do all the engine and rear brake pads... Not the easiest job, but nothing insurmountable for our technician who specialises in high-flying stunts!

Cost of preparation: investment and added value

Such preparation represents a significant investment, costingaround €16,000 for all the modifications carried out at Shiftech. This sum covers a new, forged engine, plus all the necessary installations and adjustments, as well as customised mapping for Stage 3 to guarantee both performance and reliability.
